Due to recent flooding in Boulder and the upcoming National Championships being hosted at Valmont Bike Park both races this past weekend had some interesting twist on the classic courses that make up the BoulderCup weekend.

The Colorado Cyclocross Classic takes place at the Boulder Reservoir but with the low-lying southern most part of the course covered by standing water the promoter had to make the most of what was available.

This resulted in a lot of twists and turns out in an adjacent field and some challenging sand riding down by the water’s edge. With the loose soil and so many tight corners the course made racing at full speed and fighting for each position challenging and required your attention for the full one hour effort. At the start I was able to make it thru the first series of turns without incident and got into a good group with Mitch Hoke and Skyler Trujillo. As Jamey Driscoll was coming back from a broken chain and Yannick Eckmann succumbed to a crash the five of us were racing for 13th. Pulling a 16th finish in a field this talented and at this point of the season for me is a success.
